I attended the 2017 Colorado Book Awards at the Parker Arts, Culture and Events Center (PACE) in Parker, CO in support of my anthology category finalist book Sunrise Summits: A Poetry Anthology. The award was given to the anthology Found: Short Stories by Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, edited by Mario Acevedo (RMFW Press). I admit there was a brief twinge of disappoint when the winner (not my book) was announced, but it indeed passed quickly. It was such an honor to have made the finalist pool with a book of poetry against three great anthologies of short stories.
The awards ceremony was well planned and executed. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres were served and the program moved quickly through 14 categories in about an hour. It was exciting to hear the winner’s comments and their brief (3 minute) readings. The list of winning books can be found via this link.
The afternoon was a great success and thoroughly enjoyable. Sunrise Summits will wear its shiny silver finalist sticker with great pride (though gold one would have looked smashing!)
Thanks to the Colorado Humanities Center for the Book staff for the sponsoring the yearly award and promoting the arts and its creators.
