How did the first Wednesday of November get here already? Yes, I’m playing catch up. Thank goodness Alex Cavanaugh never let’s us down, keeps us inspired, and steers the ship of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group through safe waters at full speed ahead. This month’s question: What is your favorite aspect of being a writer?
When I’m not stuck in some sort of insecurity and the writing is good, the thing I like best the lost sense of time and place. All external interruptions, distractions, and worries are left behind. It’s the same sensation/experience I get when I am fly fishing. Each decision I make about my writing (or my fishing) is mine alone. Good, bad, or otherwise, it’s up to me to make things happen, to bring myself joy in the creation and outcome of something new.
On a different level, the interaction with other creatives is as equally enjoyable. Being able to talk to someone without seeing a glazed-over look in their eyes is nice. We get “us” even if for just a moment of shared time. If I ever had to put the pen down for good, I know I could do it, but I’d never get over the loss of the creative community.
All the best for you NaNoWriMo’s this month. I’m off to my anthology book launch celebration tonight, with a second one in two weeks!
