Heading down one of the two main thoroughfares that bisect my hometown, this sign caught my eye:

bait

Knowing the city council would never approve one that read “Live Girls,” I figured this must be good. Locally, we hadn’t seen live bait for sale in quite a while. So I checked for traffic, made a U-turn and went back to investigate.

Pulling into the driveway I was greeted by yet another, eye-catching advertisement:

Options galore!

Options galore!

Could it really be true? Had I died and gone to Heaven? An assortment of baits, net repair and custom furniture to sit on the edge of the local lake? Talk about one stop shopping.

I pulled around back, only to find to shop had closed. A twinge of guilt swept through me. Had I known earlier of this wonderful place to shop, I would have dropped some coin and kept this courageous, local entrepeneur in business.

But I was too late.

Now I wonder where a kid like this…

A happy fisherman

Or like this…

Another happy kid

Another happy kid

gonna buy his minnows and leeches?

A quick shout out to my friends over at Elkhorn Fly Rod and Reel. They continue to support our local chapter of PHWFF, this time by offering the Chicken Soup for the Soul books we use as an ongoing fundraiser. Thanks to Brian and the Crew!
